Privacy
ChaserMap (chasermap.com) is the public map of the Storm Chaser Network (stormchasernetwork.com).
If you're watching
We don't ask you to sign up, we don't set advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't sell anything about you. Our server keeps ordinary technical logs (such as your IP address and the pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. The map loads radar from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, warnings from the National Weather Service, map tiles from OpenFreeMap, and YouTube videos in YouTube's own player, so those services see your request as usual. Donate buttons take you to each chaser's own page; ChaserMap handles no payments.
If you're a chaser in the network
- Location. Your phone or tracker sends GPS positions while it runs. The team sees your current position in real time. The public sees it only if you turn on "Show me on chasermap.com", never inside your home zone, and as late as the delay you choose. Speed is never shown publicly, and the public map never shows routes.
- Video and audio. Every camera you connect is recorded and kept. Viewers only see cameras you mark public, and only hear their audio if you allow it.
- Team radio. Everything said on the team radio is recorded and kept, as are Storm Alert's warnings to you.
- Storage. Recordings, radio, GPS history and warning logs are stored on our server and in Backblaze B2 cloud storage, with backups. We keep them so chases can be reviewed later. Ask us to delete yours at any time.
- Sign-in. Your email and mobile number are used to send sign-in codes and team messages, nothing else.
Not for safety decisions
Positions can be delayed or missing, and Storm Alert can be late or wrong. Always follow the National Weather Service and local officials.
